Why ReadyState Exists

The cost of doing nothing is always higher than getting help. We built this company so that every business, regardless of size or budget, has a path forward that fits their actual risks and goals.

The Cycle We Are Here to Break

Most businesses know they need to do something about cybersecurity. They look at what is available, get overwhelmed by the complexity or the cost, and decide to wait. Sometimes they buy a tool that checks a box but does not address the real problem. Sometimes they do nothing at all.

Either way, the outcome is the same: risk accumulates, gaps widen, and when something goes wrong, the cost of recovering is far greater than the cost of getting help would have been.

This cycle is not caused by negligence. It is caused by an industry that has made cybersecurity feel inaccessible. Too expensive for most budgets, too complicated to act on without deep expertise, and too often sold through fear rather than clarity. Businesses end up paralyzed between knowing they should act and not knowing where to start.

We started ReadyState to break that cycle. Not by selling a product, but by making sure that every business that reaches out walks away with something useful, whether that is a free resource, a strategy session, or a solution built around their specific risks and goals.

What Drives Us

These are the principles behind every recommendation we make, every resource we build, and every partnership we form.

Clarity Over Fear

The cybersecurity industry has a habit of using fear to drive action. We take the opposite approach. Fear leads to reactive, short-term decisions. Clarity leads to strategy. We help businesses understand their risk clearly so they can make informed decisions without pressure or panic.

Assurance Over Confidence

Confidence is a feeling based on what you can see. Assurance comes from having a second set of eyes on what you might be missing. The gaps between the two are where breaches live. We exist to close that gap through structured, framework-based verification.

Access for Every Business

Cybersecurity should not be something only large enterprises can afford to get right. Every business that handles sensitive data deserves a path forward that fits their size, their budget, and their actual risk. We built our model around making that possible.

Knowledge Should Be Shared

We give away the playbook. Literally. The more businesses understand about their risk, the better decisions they make, whether they work with us or not. Misinformation and knowledge gaps put businesses at risk. Sharing what we know is how we fight that.

Framework Over Guesswork

Too many businesses try to solve cybersecurity by jumping straight to tools and checklists without ever understanding the risk those tools are supposed to address. That is guessing. And guessing here is gambling. We start every engagement from a structured understanding of actual risk, built on recognized frameworks like NIST and CIS, so that every decision connects back to something real.

The Right Team for the Right Problem

Most cybersecurity firms sell their own services and their own products. That means their recommendations are shaped by what they offer, not necessarily by what you need.

We work differently. ReadyState operates as a cybersecurity services broker. We partner with specialized consulting firms, solution providers, and technology vendors so that when a business comes to us, we can match them with the right team for their specific situation. In some cases we handle things in-house. In others we bring in partners with deeper expertise in a particular area. Sometimes we present multiple options and help you evaluate which path makes the most sense.

The result is that our recommendations are driven by your risk profile and your goals, not by what we happen to have on the shelf. Your needs come first, and the solution follows from there.

Vendor-Neutral Guidance

We are not tied to a single product or provider. Our recommendations are based on what fits your environment, your risk, and your budget.

Specialized Partners

We maintain partnerships with consulting firms and providers across multiple disciplines so we can bring in the right expertise when a situation calls for it.

Your Translator and Guide

We sit between you and the technical world. We help you understand your options, evaluate providers, and make decisions with clarity rather than confusion.

Where We Started

ReadyState Cybersecurity grew out of RLS Consulting, founded in 2018 to help businesses navigate the increasingly complex world of cybersecurity and technology decisions. From the beginning, the mission was the same: make cybersecurity understandable, accessible, and actionable for businesses that do not have a dedicated security team or a six-figure budget.

Over the years, that work deepened. We built relationships across the independent insurance industry, worked with hundreds of agencies nationwide, and developed a framework-driven approach to helping businesses understand and act on their actual risk. Along the way, we grew from a solo consultancy into a partner network that can serve businesses of any size.

In 2025, the business evolved into ReadyState Cybersecurity to reflect what we had become: not just a consulting practice, but a guide that helps businesses reach a ready-state, where they know their risk, have a plan, and are prepared for whatever comes next.

Ryan's career spans over 15 years across cybersecurity, insurance technology, sales, and education. That combination is what makes his approach different. He does not just understand the technical side of cybersecurity. He understands how businesses operate, how decisions get made, and what it takes to turn a complex topic into something a business leader can act on.

His work in the insurance industry goes back to 2011, starting in agency technology before spending nearly a decade focused specifically on cybersecurity for agencies and small businesses. He has worked with hundreds of agencies across the country, from small independent shops to several of the Top 100 agencies and brokers in the US. He has spoken at industry events including Big I Connecticut, NetVU, and others, and has contributed to cybersecurity education through the Agents Council for Technology (ACT) and industry publications.

Ryan built ReadyState around a simple belief: every business that reaches out should walk away with something useful. Whether that is a free playbook, a strategy session, or a long-term engagement, the goal is always the same. Help people understand their risk, see their options clearly, and make informed decisions without pressure.

"He has a way of taking the most complicated topics and breaking them down into easily understood information. His patient and calm demeanor only adds to his ability to provide solid, trustworthy guidance."
